UB ScholarWorks

2026 Library Publishing Showcase Week: Publications and Programs / Cost Savings

UB ScholarWorks

UB ScholarWorks launched in 2024 as a publishing program from UB Libraries, hosted on Ubiquity Press. Its primary publications are journals— at present, three journals from a variety of disciplines. There is no fee to read or publish articles in UB ScholarWorks, and it is intended to keep it that way.

At present, the primary assessments for UB ScholarWorks’ impact are the regularity of publication and the statistics of site visitors. As the importance of those metrics is subjective, they work with journal editors to ensure they track the most meaningful statistics for their work.

Library publishing was on the horizon for UB Libraries for at least a decade before the launch of UB ScholarWorks. Behind those efforts was a desire to challenge profit-driven systems that dominate academic publishing. UB ScholarWorks emerged as a platform to advance a collaborative, community-driven scholarship characteristic of library publishing. Library publishing allows editors and authors to contribute to scholarly conversations through a diamond open-access model to remove financial barriers for both authors and readers, ensuring that knowledge remains accessible to all.
